Hi! My name is Mary Vivola, and I am one of Sunset Ridge's 6th grade teachers. This is my sixth year teaching at Sunset Ridge. I consider myself blessed to be teaching remarkable children alongside an outstanding staff and supportive parents.
Five years ago, I relocated to Arizona from New York. My teaching career began in NY after I earned my BA from Fordham University and a Masters in Science Education from Brooklyn College. While in NY, I taught as a Special Education Teacher. I also worked with English Language Learners, trained teachers, mentored students from New York University, and facilitated workshops for parents.
Three of my four children are students in Deer Valley schools. My two sons attend Boulder Creek High School; Ray is a junior and Nick is a sophomore. My daughter, Mallory, is a 7th grader at our school. My eldest, Laura, is a nurse working and living in Florida. She made me a grandma to Caelyn this year! I have been married to my husband, Larry, for over twenty-one, fun-filled years.
Most of my time outside of school is spent with my family. We love to play and/or cheer for the High Desert Heat Basketball Club, the BCHS Jaguars, and of course, the Sunset Ridge Hawks! Go Hawks! My husband and I love to travel, experience foods from different cultures, and prepare meals to share with family and friends. I love to read, and have a passion for children's literature and history. I consider myself a life-long learner. I adore Arizona, its people, the culture, the creatures and landscape, my new friends, and the wonderful children I am so fortunate to work with.
Let’s have a wonderful year!
